The early 1990s was a turbulent era for Real Betis with the club beset by financial issues and stuck playing in the Spanish second tier. Things started to improve by the 1993-94 season when under Lorenzo Serra Ferrer, Betis finished as runners-up a point behind Español to earn promotion back to La Liga after a three-year absence. This was a team which featured a returning hero in the veteran Rafael Gordillo playing in midfield alongside the talented youngster Juan José Cañas. The team also had illustrious homegrown players such as Merino, Ureña, Cuéllar and Márquez. To round off a successful season, Betis also reached the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey after eliminating Barcelona during their run.

Champions both the year before and the year after, the 1984-85 season saw Panathinaikos miss out on the Greek title as they finished 3 points behind PAOK. Much attention was focused on the club's European run which took them all the way to the semi-finals of the European Cup.
This season was also notable for the arrival from Panionios of a future club legend in Dimitris Saravakos. The talented, creative attacker had a great debut season and finished as the League's second-top scorer with 15 goals. He formed a great understanding in deeper positions with Juan Ramon Rocha and another newcomer in Velimir Zajec, then pushed forward to combine brilliantly with strikers Charalampidis and Dimopoulos.
The 1974–75 season was a time of change for Panathinaikos as the hugely popular and successful Ferenc Puskas resigned as coach. He was replaced by Yugoslav Stjepan Bobek, who returned to the club after successes in the 1960s.
It wasn't a memorable season with a fifth-place finish in the league and a cup final defeat to arch-rivals Olympiacos, but legendary striker Antonis Antoniadis finished as the league's top scorer with 20 goals - the fifth time he has won this award in six seasons.
Antoniadis was one of the three legends of the club, along with Mimis Domazos and Kostas Eleftherakis, who stood out for Panathinaikos during this era.
